5 SPRING STYLE TIPS FOR EVERYONE “IN BETWEEN”
Written by Connie Hackett (@constancelh)
Sometimes you find yourself fitting in both 'regular' and 'plus' sized clothing, and that can make shopping an absolute nightmare. You go into a store with a hopeful attitude and you come out feeling less than. And then there are those constricting 'rules' that women this size are supposed to follow all their lives when it comes to wardrobe choices. I believe there is absolutely no reason to choose not to wear something that you want to wear based on what the 'rules' are. Confidence is key and you can wear whatever the heck makes you feel good. That being said, here are some tips that work for me!
1. HIGH WAISTED PANTS CAN AND WILL BE YOUR FRIEND
There are some great high-waisted pant options out there right now for petite, 'inbetweeners' and plus size women. Whether more of a culotte, skinny leg or jogger style, adding some attention your waist when paired with a somewhat-slouchy top or something tucked in is always a good idea. It helps to show off all the curves and celebrate them. But ultimately I just find them to be super comfortable and functional for my everyday life, which is really high on my requirement list.
2. DRESSES DON’T HAVE TO BE A-LINE
A-line dresses look great on pretty much everyone, but don’t knock a shirt dress till you’ve tried it! I find them to be really easy to style with both sneakers and heels, which is great if you are looking for a multi-purpose piece this spring (which I always am because I am lazy and like things to look nice without as little effort as possible).
3. OVERALLS CAN ALSO BE YOUR FRIEND
You know how I said comfort was high on my requirements list? Well, that went into my decision to try out overalls (I’m also really enthusiastic about reliving my 90s’ childhood). However, these overalls aren’t the same overalls of your childhood — instead, they are more fitted, which I really like. I’ve even paired them with a nice top and ankle boots to dress them up a bit. It’s also nice to not have to heave-ho your pants up every few minutes.
4. NECKERCHIEFS ARE COOL RIGHT?
I will always be a fan of neckerchiefs because I think they add some fun pizzazz to pretty much any outfit. However, if you are looking for something to keep your neck warm on a slightly chilly day (we live in BC, those happen) then don’t rely on a neckerchief. So many tutorials on great ways to tie neckerchiefs on Youtube and Pinterest. Try one out!
5. DON’T SHY AWAY FROM BAGGY (BUT LIKE, TASTEFULLY BAGGY)
One 'rule' that seems to appear in a lot of typical plus size clothing is that baggy is bad and we all know that they say, when they say why (eye roll). There's NOTHING wrong with a great oversized piece in my opinion. I love a good oversized blazer with a graphic tee and jeans. Not everything needs to be skin tight. I think it’s great to show off your shape but you don’t have to always stick to that. There are so many great looks you can create and you don’t need to be boxed in with 'rules'! (If you haven’t guessed already, I’m not a big fan of rules).
